Local Recreation Opportunities

Explore inclusive and adaptive recreation close to home. Lexington and Burlington offer opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy activities, build friendships, develop skills, and participate in community life.

Use the town links below for current programs, ages, schedules, fees, and registration. Offerings change by season; contact the recreation team to discuss the right fit and available supports.

Start with your interests and support needs. Ask about communication and sensory accommodations, staffing, personal care, caregiver participation, and financial assistance. For programs outside your town, confirm nonresident eligibility and fees before registering.

Lexington

Therapeutic Recreation & Inclusion Support

Lexington provides specialized and inclusive recreation for people of all ages and abilities, including people with autism, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and other disabilities. Programs focus on social connection, independence, physical activity, and community participation.

Families can complete an intake packet or arrange a meeting with the Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to discuss program fit. Inclusion services may also support participation in general recreation programs; request support early and confirm what staffing and accommodations are available.

Programs to Explore

Examples listed for fall 2026 include the following. Check each listing for current sessions and availability.

  • Adaptive Combined Martial Arts — Adapted martial arts instruction for children and adults, with separate age groups. Review the directions-following and safety requirements.
  • Adaptive Tennis — Youth and teen lessons using modified equipment, flexible rules, and individualized pacing to develop tennis skills and confidence.
  • LexGo — Community activities and social connections for teens with disabilities, including experiences such as riding Lexpress and attending sensory-friendly movies. Confirm age/grade eligibility; one-to-one staff are not provided.

Therapeutic Recreation

Burlington Parks & Recreation offers purposeful, engaging programs for people with disabilities of all ages. Its therapeutic recreation division emphasizes socialization, wellness, confidence, independence, and participation in the community.
