Literacy Pilot Overview + Q&A
Dear Families,
This year, the district has been piloting new K-5 literacy curricula with two important goals in mind: equitable access and equitable outcomes for all students.
Equitable Access
Our Literacy, Special Education, and English Learner Education (ELE) departments are working collaboratively to ensure that all students, including students with disabilities, have meaningful access to grade-level instruction. Piloting new curricula and instructional approaches allows school-based teams to examine which strategies are most effective--and for whom.
Equitable Outcomes
Our district data shows that we have more work to do to achieve equitable outcomes for Black students and students with disabilities. Piloting new curriculum is one way we are ensuring our practices reflect current research and best practices in literacy instruction.
Is your child participating in one of the pilot classrooms as part of the literacy pilot?
Do you have questions about how students with disabilities are accessing and being supported within the piloted programs?
We invite you to join a virtual Q&A session with members of our Special Education Evaluation Team Supervisors (ETSs) and special educators who are working directly with the pilot classrooms.
